Jeremiah (Jay) Campbell Violoncello

Jeremiah Jay CampbellJeremiah (Jay) Campbell has been awarded top prizes from many competitions and organizations such as ASCAP, Corpus Christi International Competition, the Aspen Music Festival, Young Musicians Foundation (Los Angeles) and more. Notable recent solo engagements include the concertos of Tchaikovsky, Barber, and Pierre Boulez with ensembles in California and Colorado. In addition, he was recently appointed for the second time by panel of musicians from the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra to serve as principal cellist of the Juilliard Orchestra.

An avid performer of contemporary music, Jeremiah has worked on multiple occasions with many renowned composers including John Adams, Richard Danielpour, Mason Bates, Chen Yi, and Steve Mackey, among others. He is currently a member of the New Juilliard Ensemble, AXIOM, and often is a guest performer with many contemporary ensembles throughout New York. As a founding member of the San Francisco based Magik*Magik Orchestra, he has premiered works by composers as diverse as Pauline Oliveros and Joan La Barbara to Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead) and Blixa Bargeld (of Einstürzende Neubauten).

Campbell is currently pursuing studies at The Juilliard School with Fred Sherry. A San Francisco native, he has studied with Jennifer Culp, Milly Rosner, Richard Aaron, and Peter Wyrick. He has participated in masterclasses with many distinguished musicians such as Joel Krosnick, Yuri Bashmet, Joan Jeanrenaud, Ansi Kartunnen, as well as members of the Juilliard, Emerson, Arditti, Kronos, Takacs, and Alexander string quartets.
